Winter has come bearing gifts!
Winterpeg, Manisnowba. Our place. Record heat then snow in a matter of months of one another. Whisky on the last Wednesday of every month. A Bad Ass Bourbon BBQ , blind tasting, sherry, peat, sweet and heat, Trick or Treat? And now for the creme de la sauce, my favourite, The Winter Gala!
I love the Gala, it changes theme and location each year. Year one we all brought a nice bottle and shared it amongst ourselves in a private room at Hy’s Steakhouse. Our final bottle of that evening was Bowmore 27 Port Cask and it was epic! Oh, and there were prizes!
Year two was interesting to say the least. The whiskies (and tequila) featured were a nod to the expressions released at the Manitoba Liquor Marts Distinctions release. We convened on Zoom last year due to restrictions restrictions restrictions, but still managed to dress up (from the waist up) and have a great time. More prizes!
Year three is bound to be the best year yet. Thanks to Brendan and Erin, we have a warm place to sample 10 whiskies that seem to be masterfully curated by our man in charge Mark! Old and high strength Canadian whiskies, A pair of 17 year old Speysides, Some special release Islays, Bourbon, blends and Cadenheads. Oh, and prizes! Oh, and a sweet fireplace to smoke cigars by out back! Thank you so much Brendan and Erin for hosting this year!
